The CHG281 is the LOBOO crash bar system for the Honda CB500X from 2019 onward and the CB400X from 2021 onward, made of 304 stainless steel with 25 mm diameter tubing and a 2 mm wall thickness. The two motorcycles share the same chassis, so the same code covers both.

It is available in three configurations. The complete CHG281SX set includes four bars—two upper bars at tank height and two lower bars alongside the engine—and contains 20 items in the parts list. The two upper bars alone are the CHG281S, with 16 items. The two lower bars alone are the CHG281X, with 9 items. Each configuration has its own manual, all of which can be downloaded from this listing.

On the CB500X and CB400X, typical falls are low-speed incidents during maneuvering or on soft ground, with damage concentrated on the engine covers, radiator, and fairings. The upper bars protect the upper area, while the lower bars protect the engine side: those who want to proceed gradually can buy the lower section first and add the upper section later.

The two finishes differ only in appearance: blasted and electropolished silver, or electrostatic-painted black. Beneath the treatment, the material is the same 304 stainless steel, which does not initiate rust where it gets chipped.

Installation uses the frame’s original mounting points, with no drilling or cutting, and reuses some of the motorcycle’s bolts. The complete-set manual specifies different torque settings for each size: 60 N·m for the M10×1.25 bolts, 40 N·m for the M10×25 bolts, 28 N·m for the M8 bolts, and 12 N·m for the M6 bolts, with threadlocker included.

The manufacturer’s recommendation should be read before starting: the specified bolts must be removed in a precise sequence, installing the lower brackets before removing the original aluminum spacers, to prevent the engine from dropping. A torque wrench is required.

The rubber bumpers shown in the manufacturer’s images are not included and must be purchased separately. A crash bar reduces damage from a fall; it does not eliminate it. LOBOO does not publish load tests or state the weight of this code. Endurrad is a retailer, not the manufacturer.

Three configurations with the same code: the complete set with four bars, only the two upper bars at tank height, or only the two lower bars on the engine side. Each has its own manual and parts list.

If you want to spread out the expense, the usual approach is to start with the lower bars, which cover the area that makes contact first, and add the upper ones later.

CB500X from 2019 onward and CB400X from 2021 onward share the same chassis, and LOBOO lists both on all three manuals and the parameter panel. If you switch bikes within the family, the protection remains unchanged.

LOBOO states that it developed the part using the vehicle’s original data. It attaches to the existing mounting points on the frame, reusing some of the motorcycle’s screws: no cutting, drilling, or welding.

Removing the bars restores the motorcycle exactly to its original condition, which matters when it comes time to resell it.

The weld beads between the tube and the mounting plates are continuous and even. These are the points that bear the load when the motorcycle is laid down, so they are the first thing worth checking before choosing a crash bar.

The upper bars run at tank height and protect the fairings and upper sections; the lower bars extend down along the engine side, in front of the crankcase. Together, they enclose the motorcycle’s perimeter on the two planes that make contact with the ground in a fall.

In the manufacturer's images, the bars are shown with the rubber bumpers installed: LOBOO specifies that these are for illustrative purposes only and must be purchased separately.

They are worth adding: in a scrape, the bumper gets marked, not the tube, and it can be replaced for just a few euros.

304 stainless steel, a Ø 25 mm tube with a 2 mm wall. The material is the same beneath and above the surface treatment: where a scuff removes the finish, stainless steel remains—not iron ready to rust.

Some mounting screws are the motorcycle’s original screws and are reused. Rubber bumpers, cases, and accessories visible in the images are not included.

  1. Sul set completo il manuale chiede anche di serrare prima le viti M10×1.25×55 e M10×25, e solo dopo la lunga M10×1.25×168 che attraversa il motore.
  2. Coppie di serraggio: 60 N·m sulle M10×1.25, 40 N·m sulle M10×25, 28 N·m sulla M8×40, 12 N·m sulle M6×20.
  3. Non serrare mano a mano: montare prima tutti i componenti, poi applicare il frenafiletti in dotazione e stringere in sequenza.
  4. La staffa di fissaggio superiore va montata sul lato sinistro, e il distanziale da Ø 21,5 mm con la parte stretta rivolta verso l'interno.
  5. LOBOO raccomanda di ricontrollare periodicamente il serraggio di tutte le viti.

Ogni configurazione ha il suo manuale, tutti scaricabili da questa scheda. Il montaggio è reversibile e si appoggia ai punti già presenti sul telaio, riutilizzando alcune viti originali della moto.

Attenzione alla sequenza

Sul set completo LOBOO raccomanda espressamente di rimuovere prima le viti indicate in verde e di installare le staffe di fissaggio destra e sinistra, e solo dopo togliere le viti indicate in blu e i tasselli in alluminio originali nei punti A e B. Serve a evitare che il motore si abbassi mentre si lavora: non è un dettaglio estetico, e va letto prima di iniziare.

  • Sul set completo il manuale chiede anche di serrare prima le viti M10×1.25×55 e M10×25, e solo dopo la lunga M10×1.25×168 che attraversa il motore.

Which motorcycles is it compatible with?

All three installation manuals and the parameter panel indicate the same two motorcycles: HONDA CB500X (2019–) and HONDA CB400X (2021–), meaning from those years onward with no upper limit. The two Hondas share the same chassis, which is why a single code covers both.

Which configuration should I choose?

The complete set includes four bars and covers both the upper area around the tank and the engine side. The lower bars alone protect the engine casing and engine side, which is where the motorcycle makes first contact in a slow-speed fall. The upper bars alone cover the tank and upper fairings.

If you want to spread out the cost, the most common choice is to start with the lower bars and add the upper ones later.

Can I buy one part first and add the other later?

Yes, they are sold as separate items, and LOBOO provides a dedicated manual for each one. Please note that the complete set has its own parts list, including a long through-bolt that connects the two sides: if you buy the two halves separately, you will receive the hardware specified for each configuration.

Do I need to drill or modify the motorcycle?

No: it attaches to the existing mounting points on the frame, with no cutting, drilling, or welding, and in some places the motorcycle’s original screws are reused. Once the bars are removed, the CB returns exactly to its original condition, which matters when it comes time to resell it.

Is there anything I should know before starting the assembly?

Yes, and it should be read before working on the motorcycle. For the complete LOBOO kit, first remove the screws marked in green and install the right and left mounting brackets, and only then remove the screws marked in blue and the original aluminum spacers: this prevents the engine from dropping while you work.

The manual also specifies tightening the short screws first and the long one that passes through the engine only at the end. If you have any doubts, write to us before starting.
