Everything you need to know before ordering

Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.

Description Barkbusters STORM STM-002 full handguards, single-point, 25.4 mm handlebar

The STM-002 is the complete handguard from the STORM series in the single-point clamp-mounted version, for 25.4 mm handlebars, i.e. one inch: the typical size for cruisers, customs and many American motorcycles. Everything is included: black STORM plastics, brackets, clamps and hardware.

Protects against the elements, not impacts

Barkbusters states this unequivocally: this product is designed solely for protection against the elements and NOT for impact protection. The handguard attaches at just one point on the handlebar and is not anchored at the end: the triangle that absorbs the impact is missing.

If what you are looking for is lever protection in a fall, the correct choice is a two-point model: see the specific kits for your motorcycle or the universal kits.

Measure 18 mm before ordering

The manufacturer requires 18 mm of straight, unobstructed handlebar space inward from the controls: this is where the clamp goes. Measure with a ruler from the inner edge of the switchgear toward the center of the handlebar. If you have less than 18 mm of clear space, this handguard cannot be mounted, and no adapter will solve the problem. On cruisers and customs, where the handlebar is often crowded with controls and accessories, this is a check worth doing twice.

On the other hand, the handlebar end remains free: the original bar-end weights stay in place and the grips do not need to be cut.

Declared compatibility

Requirement Value
Handlebar 25.4 mm (1")
Clear space inward At least 18 mm
22 mm handlebar Requires the STM-001

It is a universal kit: no make, model or year-specific code is required. Barkbusters states compatibility for vehicles in their original factory configuration.

What you will find in the package

  • Two black STORM plastics, right and left.
  • Two L-shaped brackets, one right and one left.
  • Clamps and saddles sized for 25.4 mm handlebars.
  • Complete hardware: Allen screws, button-head screws, mushroom-head screws, self-locking nuts and washers.

What is NOT included

  • Nothing essential: the kit is complete. If you need replacement plastics someday, the code is STM-003.

Installation

The manufacturer provides several bracket mounting positions, leaving room to adjust the handguard orientation. Check the operation of the throttle, front brake, clutch and kill switch before riding, use a medium-strength threadlocker and check the tightness again after the first 50 km.

Why buy it from Endurrad

Free shipping in Italy over €100 and in Europe over €250, 14-day returns, and support in Italian. If you are unsure about the diameter or available space, send us a photo of the handlebar before ordering.

Why choose it
  • Kit completo. Plastiche, staffe, morsetti e viteria in una confezione.
  • Plastiche sostituibili.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

Before ordering, measure 18 mm

  • The clamp requires 18 mm of straight, unobstructed handlebar space inward from the controls. This is what determines whether it can be installed.
Single point: what does it mean?

Single point: what does it mean?

The L bracket starts from a clamp on the straight section of the handlebar and supports the plastic as a cantilever: a single anchor point, without the second point at the end. This is why Barkbusters specifies this product for weather protection only, not for impacts.

Mounted on a Yamaha Royal Star

25.4 mm is the typical size for cruisers and custom bikes, and that's where this kit fits in: broad protection against wind and rain on long-distance motorcycles, without interfering with the handlebar end.

The most extensive coverage in the range

The most extensive coverage in the range

275 mm long by 140 mm high: the STORM plastic is the largest in the Barkbusters range. For comparison, the VPS is 250 by 105 and the JET is 245 by 110. It is the road and cold-season handguard, where protection matters more than lightness.

Grips and bar-end weights stay where they are

Grips and bar-end weights stay where they are

The clamp mount works only on the straight section: the handlebar end is not touched. No grips to cut, no bar-end weights to remove. In return, 18 mm of free handlebar space is required inward from the controls.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Does it protect the lever in a fall?

No, and the manufacturer explicitly states it: the STM-002 is designed solely for protection from the elements and NOT for impact protection. It attaches to the handlebar at only one point, without anchoring at the end. If you want lever protection in a fall, you need two-point models.

How can I tell if my handlebar is 25.4 mm?

Measure it with calipers on the straight section where the clamp attaches. 25.4 mm corresponds to one inch and is the typical size for cruisers, customs, and many American motorcycles; 22 mm, or 7/8 inch, is the standard for European enduro, trail, and naked bikes. If yours is 22 mm, you need the STM-001.

What is the 18 mm of clearance, and how do I measure it?

These are the millimeters of straight, unobstructed handlebar needed for the clamp, inward from the controls. Measure them with a ruler from the inner edge of the control housing toward the center of the handlebar: if you have less than 18 mm of clear space, the clamp will not fit.

Is the kit complete, or do I need to buy anything else?

It's complete. The package includes the black STORM plastics, the right and left L brackets, the clamps with 25.4 mm saddles, and all the hardware: fourteen items on the bill of materials.

Should I remove the bar ends or cut off the grips?

No, and that's the practical advantage of the single clamp mount: the handlebar end remains free, so the original bar-end weights stay in place and the grips don't need to be cut. Installation only affects the straight section.

What is the difference between STM-002 and STM-001?

Only the handlebar diameter differs: the STM-002 is for 25.4 mm handlebars, while the STM-001 is for 22 mm handlebars. The plastic parts, brackets, and level of protection are identical.

What is the difference compared with the STM-002-NP version?

The NP version is the assembly kit only, without plastics: the official PDF explicitly states this and refers to code STM-003 to purchase them separately. This listing, however, is the complete set, including black STORM plastics.

Is it suitable for a custom or a cruiser?

Yes: 25.4 mm is indeed the typical size for cruisers and custom bikes, and Barkbusters states that the STORM series is designed for street bikes, cruisers, naked bikes, adventure bikes, and scooters. The requirement for 18 mm of clearance inward from the controls still applies, which should be checked on very crowded handlebars.

Can I install plastics in a different color?

Yes. The plastic parts replace themselves with code STM-003, available in black or white.

Can I adjust the handguard's angle?

Partly: the manufacturer provides several mounting positions for the bracket, so there is room to orient the handguard in relation to the handlebar and controls.

Do I need to recheck the tightening after installation?

Yes. Barkbusters asks you to check the tightness of all screws again after the first 50 km and recommends using a medium-strength threadlocker on all fasteners.

Is it suitable for winter use on the motorway?

This is exactly its area of expertise. The STORM plastic one is the largest in the range, 275 by 140 mm, and the manufacturer says it is designed to provide excellent protection from wind and cold. What it does not do is protect you in a fall.
