Barkbusters BLG-018 aluminum handguards for Honda CRF50 and Suzuki DRZ70 mini bikes

The BLG-018 is the Barkbusters aluminum handguard for Honda CRF50 and Suzuki DRZ70 minibikes. Two wraparound bars secured at two points protect the levers and the young riders' hands in crashes.

Know this before purchasing: no compatible plastics exist for this part number. The aluminum guard is installed and used as supplied, without purchasing anything else. Installation requires opening the grips if they are closed and shortening the throttle tube end cap by no more than 3 mm.

Protection and use

Barkbusters specifies two-point mounting, anchored at both the end and the center of the handlebar, for impact protection. On a minibike, this keeps the brake and clutch levers protected during crashes, which are frequent at that age, and protects hands from impacts and branches.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum bars (manufacturer part number BAR-E-010), CS-STD split clamps with bushings, 45 mm connectors, and BBE14A expanders with collars. The manufacturer does not state the finish or the kit's weight, so we do not list them.

Compatibility

Barkbusters does not specify years for this part number: before ordering, write to us with the minibike's model and year. Compatibility is stated for motorcycles in their original factory configuration.

Installation

Preparation. If the grips are closed at the ends, open them with a utility knife; on the right side, the hole must be clean and no smaller than the throttle tube's inner diameter. Move the throttle control approximately 20 mm outward, roll back the grip, and use a hacksaw to cut the plastic throttle tube end cap: no more than 3 mm, without touching the handlebar. Remove any burrs before reinstalling.

Assembly. Insert the bushings into the split clamps with the cut aligned with the clamp opening, fit the clamp without tightening it, attach the bar at the end and to the connector, horizontal when viewed from the side, and tighten in this order: M8x45 end bolt, M8x25 bar bolt, M6x25 bolt securing the connector, M6x30 bolt closing the clamp. On the CRF50F, the sleeve may be needed above the expander.

Specified torque settings: 10 Nm for the M6 bolts and 28 Nm for the M8 bolts, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking again after the first 50 km. Leave approximately 3 mm of clearance between the throttle grip and the handguard. Installation must be carried out by an adult or in a workshop.
