It is not just a plate: it is a complete rear luggage rack, with a tubular structure, crossbar, mounting blocks, and the plate onto which the top case attaches. The LOBOO manual states that it is designed for the Ducati DesertX from 2023 onward.

Fixed or sliding

  • Fixed version (JP581W): single position. It works well if you travel alone almost all the time or almost always with a passenger.
  • Sliding version (JPT581SWB-A): plate with 120 mm of fore-and-aft adjustment.

With the sliding version, you move the top case forward when traveling alone to reduce the effect of its weight on handling, or backward when carrying a passenger to give them more room on the seat. For the sliding version, LOBOO states a maximum load of 10 kg on asphalt and 8 kg on unpaved roads.

How it is installed

The parts list contains 18 items, and the manual specifies five stages: two for removing the original bolts, on both sides of the tail and underneath it, and three for installing the crossbar, structure, and plate.

There are two torque settings: 12 N·m for the M6 bolts and 20 N·m for the M8 bolts. There are eight spacers in three different lengths (11, 15, and 18 mm), and each one must be installed in the position indicated in the manual. The wrench is included, and the manual is available in eight languages, including Italian.

Which top cases can be mounted

The manual lists the PIKE TRACKER, TIBET, and CONQUEROR series for this luggage rack; the LOBOO catalog for the DesertX lists the PIKE TRACKER P36T and P45T and the TIBET T36T top cases, in black or silver. The top case is not included, and LOBOO aluminum top cases can only be mounted on LOBOO racks.

Rear load has a limit

For the fixed version, LOBOO does not state a specific load rating: the maximum load specified by Ducati for the motorcycle applies, including the luggage rack, top case, and contents. Check the fasteners again after the first few miles.

The material is not specified by any LOBOO source, including the manual. The JP581B side pannier racks for the DesertX are used on the sides; together with this luggage rack, they form the JP581BW three-case system.

How to choose between the two versions

  • Plate + Rack: fixed position. This is suitable if you almost always travel alone or almost always with a passenger, without alternating.
  • Sliding Plate + Rack: sliding rail with 120 mm of adjustment. Forward when alone, to centralise mass and reduce sway at high speeds; backward with a passenger, to free up space on the seat.

The Sliding plate unlocks with a button and re-locks itself in the new position, without tools. Maximum load indicated by LOBOO: 10 kg on asphalt, 8 kg on dirt roads.

The top case is a separate item in both versions.

For the DesertX, LOBOO offers the top case set, consisting of the top case and luggage rack, also in a version with a plate adjustable forwards and backwards.

Adding the JP581B side frames creates the three-case system. This product page covers the rear part.

LOBOO declares the luggage rack for the Ducati DesertX from 2023, with 36- or 45-liter top cases.

LOBOO aluminum top cases can only be mounted on LOBOO racks. The manufacturer specifies that its racks can be installed without damaging the motorcycle.

This is the plate for the JPT581SWB-A sliding version. LOBOO presents it as a solution for reducing motorcycle oscillations caused by the top case.

The fixed JP581W version, on the other hand, has a single position.

The weight of the empty top case counts toward the load: on the sliding rack, the stated limit is 10 kg on asphalt and 8 kg on unpaved roads.

Which Ducati DesertX models does it fit?

The LOBOO manual states that it is compatible with the Ducati DesertX from 2023 onward. The 2022 DesertX and the Rally and Discovery versions are not listed by the manufacturer: if you have one of these, contact us with the model and year before ordering.

Are side frames required to install this luggage rack?

No. The manual shows the attachment to the motorcycle’s rear subframe, at the original screw mounting points: the JP581B side frames do not appear in either the steps or the parts list.

They are two independent products that work on different areas of the motorcycle, and you can install them in any order.

Which version is better, fixed or sliding?

The fixed version is the essential, more affordable solution. The sliding version lets you move the top case 120 mm forward and backward without tools, with push-button release and automatic locking: it helps balance the load when traveling with two people or create space behind the seat.

For the sliding version, LOBOO states a maximum load of 10 kg on asphalt and 8 kg on unpaved roads. For the fixed version, the relevant limit remains Ducati’s rear subframe limit.

How many stages does the assembly involve, and what needs to be disassembled?

Five steps: in the first two, remove the original screws on both sides of the tail, performing the same operation on the right and left, and underneath the tail. In the other three, install the crossbar, the frame, and the plate.

What torque should the screws be tightened to?

The manual specifies 12 N·m for the M6 screws and 20 N·m for the M8 screws. First, complete all adjustments, then tighten them in sequence. The assembly wrench is included; the torque wrench is not.

What are the three different lengths of spacers used for?

There are eight Ø 20 mm spacers: two 11 mm ones on the structure's side mounts, two 15 mm ones under the crossbar, and four 18 mm ones between the structure and the plate. Each length has its own position, indicated in the installation view in the manual.

What's in the package?

Do you need to drill into the motorcycle?

No. The manual only calls for removing the tail section’s original screws and fastening it at those points. LOBOO states that its mounts can be installed without damaging the motorcycle.

Can I install the plate and side frames together?

Yes, they are complementary products: the plate mounts to the rear rack for the top case, while the JP581B racks mount on the sides for the panniers. Together, they complete the luggage system for the Desert X. Always check the maximum load specified by Ducati in the manual.
