Description LOBOO CHG289 Crash Bar for Honda NX400 and NX500 | 304 stainless steel, Ø 25 mm, black or silver

The CHG289 is LOBOO’s crash bar system for the Honda NX400 and NX500, both from 2024 onward, made of 304 stainless steel with 25 mm diameter tubing and a 2 mm wall thickness. One code covers both motorcycles because they share the same chassis.

It is not a single bar but a two-level system: two upper bars positioned at the level of the fairings and radiator, and two lower bars running down the side of the engine, connected by five brackets. This is why LOBOO refers to it as a multipoint support system: the contact is distributed across multiple frame mounting points instead of being concentrated on just one.

It is available in two finishes that differ only in appearance: blasted silver, with the stainless steel exposed and matching the engine block, or electrostatic-painted black, which is more discreet. The codes are CHG289SXSL for silver and CHG289SXBK for black; the material, dimensions, and mounting points are identical.

Installation uses the original mounting points and requires no drilling or welding. The manual describes eight steps and calls for some parts to be temporarily removed, then reinstalled to Honda’s specified torque settings. LOBOO advises not to fully tighten the fasteners during installation and to tighten them in sequence only at the end: 18 N·m for the M8 bolts, 45 N·m for the M10 bolts, and 55 N·m for the 168 mm M10 through-bolt. The manual is available in eight languages, including Italian, and includes an installation video.

The package contains everything: the parts list includes 24 items comprising bars, brackets, bushings, caps, hardware, and an installation wrench. LOBOO provides pre-drilled mounting holes on the bars for auxiliary lights or fog lights, which must be purchased separately.

A crash bar reduces damage from a stationary drop or a low-speed slide, but does not eliminate it: LOBOO does not publish load tests for this code, so we do not state any resistance thresholds, and it does not publish the weight. Endurrad is a retailer, not the manufacturer.

Why choose it
  • Two motorcycles, one part number:Honda NX400 and NX500, both from 2024.
  • Two finishes:Black or silver, same construction. The choice is purely aesthetic.
  • Protects where it matters:Fairings, radiator, and side components in stationary drops and low-speed slides.
Who is it recommended for

It's useful for your NX400 or NX500 if:

  • You ride off-road, where a fall from a standstill or at low speed is always possible
  • You park on unstable ground and want to reduce the consequences of the bike tipping over
  • You want to protect fairings and the radiator, the most expensive components to replace

Documented compatibility: Honda NX400 and NX500, both from 2024 onwards.

Documents and manufacturer

Assembly and notes

  • Re-check the tightening torques after the first 100-200 km and periodically with off-road use.
  • After an impact, check that the bar is not deformed and does not rest on fairings or components.
  • It is not an approved safety device and does not replace careful driving.
  • Verify model and year before purchase.

How does it work, in detail?

One code for the NX400 and NX500

One code for the NX400 and NX500

The LOBOO manual and product images both list the Honda NX400 (2024-) and Honda NX500 (2024-): the two motorcycles share the same chassis and use the same kit.

Beware of an easy mix-up: the CB500X, which the NX500 replaced, is not listed. If you have that motorcycle, write to us—the part number is different.

Four bars and five connecting brackets. The manual’s parts list contains 24 items in total: bushings, caps, M8 and M10 screws in seven different sizes, nuts, washers, and an assembly wrench.

There’s no need to purchase anything separately to assemble it.

Do you understand what multipoint support means?

Do you understand what multipoint support means?

It is the formula LOBOO uses for this kit, and here it has a concrete meaning: the five brackets connect the upper and lower bars to each other, so the attachment to the frame takes place at several points instead of just one.

In the event of support, the contact is distributed rather than concentrated. However, the manufacturer does not publish load tests, so we do not specify resistance thresholds.

Count the levels: the protection is at two heights

Count the levels: the protection is at two heights

The two upper bars protect the fairings and radiator, where a stationary drop can leave the most expensive damage. The two lower bars extend down along the engine side.

That’s the difference between a single bar and a system: the CHG289 covers both areas without the need for a second purchase.

Look at the welds, not the paint

Look at the welds, not the paint

On a crash bar, the part that really does the work is the joint between the tubes: if it fails there, the bar opens up and ends up resting right on the fairing it was supposed to protect.

LOBOO claims the welds are clean and consistent, and the close-up shows the weld bead on the exposed stainless steel. It is the only element you can assess by eye before installing it.

Choose black if you want it to disappear

Choose black if you want it to disappear

CHG289SXBK code. Electrostatic powder coating over 304 stainless steel: it blends with the NX’s dark plastics without changing the bike’s lines.

The material, dimensions, and mounting points are identical to the silver version. Only the appearance changes.

Choose silver if you want the stainless steel to be visible

Choose silver if you want the stainless steel to be visible

Code CHG289SXSL. Sandblasted 304 stainless steel, left exposed: LOBOO offers it in a color matching the engine block, and on the light-colored NX400 it contrasts with the fairings.

It is corrosion-resistant, a real advantage if the motorcycle is kept outdoors or ridden in winter on salted roads.

Add the spotlights without buying brackets

Add the spotlights without buying brackets

Anyone who heads out early in the morning or returns after dark eventually wants two spotlights, and dedicated brackets usually need to be purchased separately.

LOBOO provides pre-drilled holes on the bars for auxiliary spotlights or fog lights. The spotlights shown in the images are for demonstration purposes and are not included.

Measure how much the bars widen the motorcycle

Measure how much the bars widen the motorcycle

On a motorcycle that is also used in the city, the recurring question is not about durability but about bulk: how far they stick out to the sides in traffic and in the garage.

The front view shows the actual dimensions. LOBOO does not specify the width in millimetres; if you need the precise figure, we can measure it in the warehouse.

Look at the finished NX from the side

Look at the finished NX from the side

A four-bar linkage changes the bike’s silhouette more than you might expect, and it shows on an NX with clean styling.

It’s worth looking at it from the side before choosing between black and silver: at a glance, they look like two different bikes.

Add inflatable bags to your crash bars

Add inflatable bags to your crash bars

The bars you’re about to install do more than just protect: they’re already the ready-made mounting points for LOBOO Wanderer inflatable bags. A pair of 6-liter bags, each waterproof to IPX7, with keyed anti-theft locks and a stated capacity of 300 kg per inflated bag.

They inflate when you set off and deflate when you return: carry what you need without installing frames or leaving permanent bulk along the side of the motorcycle. Make use of the Ø 25 mm tube you already have and go fully equipped.

FAQs

For more information, please see our FAQ.

Is it suitable for both the NX400 and the NX500?

Yes. The LOBOO manual and product images both list Honda NX400 (2024-) and Honda NX500 (2024-): a single code covers both motorcycles, which share the same chassis.

Does it also fit the CB500X?

No, LOBOO does not list it. The NX500 replaced the CB500X, but it is a different motorcycle in terms of mounting points: the code for the CB500X is different. If you have a CB500X, write to us and we’ll tell you the correct one.

What does the kit include?

Four bars and five brackets. Two upper bars run at the level of the fairings and radiator, while two lower bars extend down along the engine side. The manual’s parts list contains 24 items in total, including bushings, caps, M8 and M10 bolts, nuts, washers, and an installation wrench: there’s no need to buy anything separately.

What does multipoint support mean?

The kit anchors to the frame at multiple points rather than just one, thanks to the five brackets connecting the upper and lower bars. In the event of contact, the load is distributed across several attachment points instead of being concentrated on a single one.

Do you need to drill or modify the motorcycle?

No drilling or welding: the kit attaches to the original mounting points and can be removed without leaving any marks. However, the instructions require temporarily removing some parts, which must be reinstalled to Honda's specified torque values.

What torque specifications should I use?

18 N·m for the M8 screws and 45 N·m for the M10 screws. The exception is the 168 mm M10 through-bolt, which must be tightened to 55 N·m: this is the value that must not be wrong because it holds the two sides together. LOBOO indicates completing all adjustments first and tightening in sequence only at the end.

How difficult is the assembly?

The manual describes eight steps. It is manageable for anyone accustomed to working on motorcycles, but a torque wrench is required and it should be done calmly: all the bars must be positioned before tightening.

What’s the difference between the black and silver finishes?

Just the appearance. The silver is sandblasted stainless steel, matching the engine block; the black is powder-coated and more discreet. The material, dimensions, geometry, and mounting points are identical: only the codes differ, CHG289SXSL and CHG289SXBK.

Can I mount auxiliary spotlights on it?

Yes: LOBOO drills pre-positioned holes in the bars for auxiliary spotlights or fog lights, so no additional brackets or clamps are needed. The manufacturer does not publish the exact hole diameter: if you have already chosen the lights, write to us and we will check the size on the actual part before you place your order.

Are the spotlights included?

No. Spotlights, mounts, and accessories shown in the images are for demonstration purposes and must be purchased separately. The package includes the bars, brackets, and all the hardware needed to install them.

Does a crash bar prevent damage in the event of a fall?

It reduces damage; it does not eliminate it. The bars move the point of contact away from the fairings, radiator, and engine side, but the outcome depends on speed, angle, and surface. LOBOO does not publish load tests for this code, so we do not claim impact-resistance thresholds.

How much does it weigh?

LOBOO does not state the weight of this code, either on the product page or in the manual, so we do not publish it. If you need it, we can weigh the kit in our warehouse and let you know before you place the order.

Is it necessary to recheck the tightening after installation?

Yes, and the manual itself calls for it. After the first 100–200 km, recheck all the bolts at the specified torque settings, and repeat the check periodically and after every fall. Also make sure the bars are not deformed and are not resting against fairings or components.

How do warranty, shipping, and returns work?

24-month legal consumer warranty: LOBOO states 12 months, but Italian law prevails, and we handle the claim with the manufacturer. Tracked shipping is free for orders over €100 in Italy and €250 in Europe. You have 14 days from receipt of the last item in your order to return it, provided the product is intact and in its original packaging.
