Description 4A 6V/12V Battery Charger and Maintainer for Motorcycle and Car Batteries

The battery doesn’t die in winter—it dies from sitting idle. Leaving it half-discharged for two months is what ruins it, and in March you turn the key and nothing happens. This is both a battery charger and a maintainer: once charging is complete, it stays connected and monitors the battery, restarting automatically when the voltage drops.

It works at 6 and 12 volts, with two current settings—1 A for motorcycle batteries and 4 A for car batteries—and supports all three types commonly found today: lead-acid, AGM, and lithium iron phosphate. Select the type with the MODE button, because each one requires its own charging curve.

The cycle has nine stages: first diagnosis and reconditioning, followed by low-current precharging, pulsing, constant current, constant voltage, and finally maintenance. A recovery function works for up to two hours on slightly sulfated batteries, while an activation attempt is available for lithium batteries that have fallen below the over-discharge threshold.

The LCD display always shows the current stage: battery type, voltage, current, and status. The housing is IP65, with protection against short circuits, reverse polarity, overload, and overheating.

Why choose it
  • Output Options: 6V / 12V Selectable
  • Cable Types Included: Quick-Connect Ring Terminals & Alligator Clips
  • Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4): Perfect for modern ADV motorcycles (KTM, BMW, Ducati).
  • Standard Lead-Acid: The classic choice.
  • AGM & Gel: Maintenance-free batteries.
  • "Connect and Forget" Mode: Plug it in and go. The smart 9-stage charging cycle monitors voltage and temperature. Prevents overcharging, so you can leave it connected all winter safely.
Who is it recommended for

Ideal for seasonal maintenance and battery tending during off-season storage.

Avvertenze d'uso e sicurezza

How does it work, in detail?

Also charges lithium batteries

Also charges lithium batteries

Many garage battery chargers stop at lead-acid, and using the wrong charging curve on a LiFePO4 battery damages it. Here, lithium iron phosphate is one of the three modes, alongside lead-acid and AGM.

Nine phases, not a constant current

Nine phases, not a constant current

The cycle goes from diagnosis and reconditioning to pre-charge, pulsing, constant current, constant voltage, and finally maintenance. That’s the difference between charging a battery and abusing it.

The charging curve, threshold by threshold

12 V and 4 A: 0.3 A below 7.5 volts, 2 A up to 10.5, 4 A up to 14, then constant voltage at 14.4 and maintenance at 13.5 volts.

First analyze, then decide

First analyze, then decide

The charger reads the battery’s condition and selects the appropriate sequence, including attempting to recover slightly sulfated batteries.

Short circuit, reverse polarity, overload, and overheating. If you swap the terminals, nothing happens: the charger simply does not deliver power.

Maintenance does the rest

Maintenance does the rest

Once fully charged, it stops charging and remains in standby, restarting automatically when the voltage drops to 12.6 V. This is exactly what is needed during months of storage.

A battery lasts longer if it isn't left discharged

A battery lasts longer if it isn't left discharged

Sulfation occurs when a battery remains partially charged for weeks. Keeping it connected to a maintainer is the simplest way to avoid having to throw it away after two winters.

The cable that stays on the motorcycle

The cable that stays on the motorcycle

The cable with ring terminals is attached to the terminals once, and the connector is routed to a convenient location: in winter, you can connect the battery charger without removing the seat.

FAQs

For more information, please see our FAQ.

Is it suitable for my motorcycle battery?

Yes, if it is a 6 V or 12 V lead-acid, AGM, or lithium iron phosphate battery. Select the type with the MODE button from SLA, AGM, and LiON: this step must not be skipped because the charging curves are different.

Can I leave it connected all winter?

Yes: it is also a battery maintainer. Once fully charged, it stops charging and remains on standby; when the voltage drops to 12.6 V, it automatically resumes. It is the right way to get through months of inactivity without damaging the battery.

How long does it take?

It depends on the battery’s capacity and how discharged it is. The two currents are 1 A for motorcycle batteries and 4 A for car batteries: the former is slower but gentler, while the latter is intended for larger capacities.

How do you connect it?

First connect the battery clamps, red to positive and black to negative, and only then plug the charger into the power outlet. This is the sequence specified in the manual, and it is also the only way to start activating a very deeply discharged lithium battery.

Can you revive a lithium battery that no longer shows any signs of life?

It tries: below the deep-discharge threshold, the charger attempts activation, provided it is connected first to the battery and then to the mains. However, if the battery’s electronic protection has already permanently intervened, no charger can help.

What is the regeneration function?

A cycle that works for up to two hours on slightly sulfated batteries—those that have been left unused and discharged for too long. Recovery is gradual and not guaranteed: for a battery in poor condition, it only serves to confirm that it needs replacing.

What happens if I reverse the terminals?

Nothing: there is reverse-polarity protection, so the charger does not deliver power. There is also protection against short circuits, overload, and overheating.

The display shows “Err”: what does it mean?

According to the manual, it is the symbol for reversed polarity: this can also occur with the connections made correctly when the vehicle has a positive ground. In that case, the terminals must be swapped.

Is it okay below zero too?

In cold weather, the manufacturer recommends using AGM mode for lead-acid batteries, even if they are not AGM: below 10 °C, a higher charging voltage is required. No special mode is needed for lithium batteries.

Do you keep it outdoors, in a garage, or under a carport?

The manufacturer rates it IP65, meaning it is dust-tight and protected against water jets. It is still a mains-powered electrical appliance: do not leave it in a puddle or immerse it.

What's in the package?

The battery charger with the mains cable, a cable with alligator clips, a cable with quick-release ring terminals to leave permanently connected to the battery, and four cable ties to bundle the cables.

Is it the same C40T as the aluminum top case?

No, and it is an acronym coincidence: LOBOO uses C40T for both this charger and the 40-liter CONQUEROR top case. They are two different products, with different specifications.
