The LOBOO CGTBH151BK cylinder head protector is not added to the motorcycle: it replaces the original lower protection plate on the BMW R 1300 GS. You remove the stock plate and install this one in its place, using the same mounting holes. The difference is in the material: 4 mm of aluminum alloy versus the 2 mm of the BMW plate, exactly twice as thick.

Why two extra millimeters change the outcome

On the boxer engine, the cylinder heads are the motorcycle's most protruding parts: in a stationary or low-speed fall, they are the first point to touch the ground, even before the fairings. With a flat plate, doubling the thickness does not double the bending strength; it increases it by much more — and that is why this component exists.

The plate alone, however, is not enough. If it were bolted rigidly, it would transmit the impact directly to the cylinder head, the very part it is meant to protect.

How the dual damping works

Rubber buffers are housed in the mounting holes, while a silicone shock-absorbing block sits beneath the plate. The two elements have different jobs: the buffers isolate the engine's normal vibrations, while the block absorbs impact energy. This is what LOBOO calls a dual-damping design.

The blocks are made of nylon and silicone and can be replaced individually. They are the system's sacrificial components: they work by deforming, and when they are worn, you replace them without touching the plate. On a component designed to take impacts, that is the difference between maintenance and replacement.

How much thicker is it than the original?

Twice as much. The original BMW plate measures 2 mm, while this one is 4 mm; both figures are stated by the manufacturer. On a flat plate, doubling the thickness increases resistance to bending by considerably more than twice as much.

Does the package contain one or two plates?

Two: right and left, mirror images of each other, one for each cylinder head. The boxer engine has two opposed cylinders, and both need to be protected, so there’s no need to order two packages.

High-strength aluminum alloy with a black electrostatic spray coating. This is the same type of treatment used on motorcycle components exposed to the elements, and it is more resistant to abrasion and corrosion than traditional paint.

What should I check after a fall?

Check that the plate is not deformed and is not resting against the cylinder head; otherwise, it would transmit vibrations instead of isolating them. Also check the condition of the shock absorber block, which is the part intended to wear out first, and recheck the tightness of the fasteners.

Is it suitable for both the GS and the GS Adventure?
