Description Barkbusters BHG-110 handguard mounting kit for Honda CL500 from 2023 — black

The BHG-110 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the handlebar geometry of the Honda CL500 from 2023 onward. It is the aluminum structure that supports the handguards: it protects levers, controls, and hands in low-speed crashes and stationary tip-overs, and remains on the motorcycle even when you change the plastics.

For this code, the manufacturer specifies a black powder-coated bar, rather than natural aluminum as on many other kits in the range. On the CL500, which already has plenty of dark details, the structure blends in instead of standing out.

As with the entire range, the structure and protective plastics are two separate items: here you are purchasing the structure only, with hardware and handlebar weights.

Key features

  • Two-point mounting — anchoring at the handlebar end plus a clamp on the straight section. This is the configuration the manufacturer specifies for impact protection.
  • Heat-treated aluminum bar, black powder-coated.
  • Handlebar weights included — they do not need to be purchased separately.
  • Interchangeable plastics — compatible with JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON, each sold separately.
  • Made in Australia by Rideworx Pty Ltd.

Protection and use

The CL500 is a scrambler: it is built for the road, but with the idea of venturing off it just enough for a dirt road, a gravel track, or an easy trail. That is where your hands are most exposed. But the most common damage on a motorcycle like this does not even come from a moving crash: it comes from a stationary tip-over, while parking or on soft ground. In both cases, the first thing to hit the ground is the brake or clutch lever.

The two-point mounting is precisely what Barkbusters designed for this purpose: the bar forms a cage around the hand and transfers the impact to the structure instead of the lever. The single-point configuration, the other option in the range, is specified by the manufacturer only for protection from wind and weather.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum structure, a process the manufacturer uses to increase strength and impact absorption, with a black powder-coated finish. The design wraps around the hand: it starts at the straight section of the handlebar, curves around the hand, and closes at the end.

Compatibility

Make Model Years Barkbusters code
Honda CL500 from 2023 onward BHG-110-NP

Compatibility declared by Barkbusters for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Aftermarket handlebars may have different diameters and thicknesses: mounting compatibility must be checked before purchase. Unsure about your model? Contact us with the model and year.

Pay attention to the model. The CL500 shares its engine with the CB500X, CB500F, and NX500, but not its handlebar: those motorcycles use different codes. The 471 cc twin-cylinder engine alone is not enough to choose the kit.

Installation

Mounts on the original handlebar, with no drilling or modifications to the motorcycle. The stock bar-end weights must be removed because the structure anchors directly to the handlebar ends, and the weights supplied with the kit are used in their place.

Before fully tightening, check that the throttle, front brake, clutch, and engine stop switch operate freely and that the steering turns from lock to lock without interference. Recheck the tightness after the first 50 km. The complete procedure and warnings are provided in the official INS-BHG-110-NP instructions, attached to this page in the Manufacturer documents section.

What you will find in the package

  • Two heat-treated aluminum bars, painted black
  • Clamps for the straight section of the handlebar
  • Complete mounting hardware
  • Handlebar weights

What is NOT included

  • Protective plastics. They must be selected and ordered separately from the JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON series. EGO plastics are not compatible with this structure.
  • LED lights and other accessories in the range, which remain separate items.

Why choose Barkbusters

Barkbusters is a Rideworx Pty Ltd brand, an Australian company that has designed and manufactured motorcycle handguards since 1984. The range is built around a precise idea: the structure is motorcycle-specific, while the plastics are universal within the system. You buy the right structure once and then choose the protection you need, replacing it if it gets damaged or if your type of use changes, without replacing everything.

Why buy it from Endurrad

Endurrad handles accessories for touring, adventure, and enduro motorcycles: compatibility checked against the manufacturer's documentation, official instructions attached to the product page, and assistance before purchase if your model is unclear. Free shipping in Italy over 100 € and in Europe over 250 €, returns within 14 days, 1-year warranty. See the full Barkbusters range.

Why choose it
  • Protezione dagli impatti dichiarata.
  • Prodotto in Australia.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione.

Black, and not by chance

  • On this version, the manufacturer paints the frame black: on the CL500, it disappears.
Black frame, no exposed aluminum

Black frame, no exposed aluminum

For this product code, the manufacturer explicitly states that the bar is powder-coated black. On the CL500, which is a scrambler with quite a few dark details, the structure blends in rather than standing out. The package includes the bars, clamps, hardware, and handlebar weights.

The second point: the clamp on the handlebar

The second point: the clamp on the handlebar

The clamp closes around the straight section of the handlebar, in front of the controls. It is the part that turns the handguard into a cage around your hand: without it, the bar would be cantilevered from the end alone and would bend in a fall.

With STORM plastics: extended coverage

With STORM plastics: extended coverage

The same structure with STORM plastics, sold separately: it is the series with the widest coverage in the range, designed for road use and winter riding. On an unfaired motorcycle like the CL500, it is the choice for those who use it all year round.

Or with more limited VPSs

Or with more limited VPSs

The same bars with VPS plastics, which have a two-position adjustable deflector and a more compact profile. The manufacturer photographs the CL500 with both specifically to show the difference: the structure is the same, the choice is yours, and you can change it over the years.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. Here you purchase only the aluminum frame with the hardware and counterweights. The JET, VPS, STORM, or CARBON plastics are ordered separately, remain interchangeable on the same frame, and can be changed to a different color even years later.

My model is listed in the table, but the year isn’t: can I still install it?

The manufacturer lists the CL500 from 2023 onward, with no upper limit. Other models in Honda’s 500 family, such as the CB500X, CB500F, or NX500, use different codes: write to us with the model and year, and we’ll verify them before you order.

What color is the structure?

Black. For this code, the manufacturer specifies a black powder-coated bar, unlike many other kits in the range that remain in natural aluminum. On the CL500, the choice makes sense: the motorcycle already has several dark details, and the structure does not stand out.

Are the handlebar counterweights included?

Yes, the manufacturer states that they are included with this code. The motorcycle's standard bar-end weights must be removed because the structure attaches precisely to the end of the handlebar, and the supplied ones are installed in their place.

Why install handguards on a road scrambler?

Because the CL500 is designed to go just far enough off-road, and because the most common damage is not a fall while riding but a tip-over while stationary. In both cases, the first thing to hit the ground is the lever. The two-point structure ensures that the impact is absorbed by the aluminum.

What protective plastics can I mount on this structure?

Four series declared by the manufacturer: JET with a compact profile, VPS with an adjustable deflector, STORM with extended coverage, and CARBON made of carbon fiber. The official photos show the CL500 with both STORM and VPS. EGO are not compatible.

Do they significantly change the motorcycle's appearance?

Less than you fear, because here the bar is black rather than polished aluminum. How noticeable it is depends mainly on the plastic parts: the JET is the most discreet, while the STORM covers much more. Look at the two official photos in the gallery before choosing.

Does the handlebar need to be modified? What if it’s aftermarket?

No modification is required for the original handlebar: it installs using the supplied hardware. Barkbusters states compatibility only for motorcycles in their original factory configuration: with an aftermarket handlebar, the diameter and thicknesses may differ, so the mounting must be verified before purchase.

What is the difference between two attachment points and a single point?

These are two configurations that the manufacturer distinguishes and does not combine. The two attachment points, as in this kit, secure the bar both at the end of the handlebar and to the straight section, and are intended for impact protection. The single attachment point is intended only for protection from wind and the elements.

What exactly is included in the package?

The two heat-treated and black-painted aluminum bars, clamps, complete hardware, and handlebar weights. There are no protective plastics: they are the item to pair with.

Why not a universal kit, which costs less?

Because the clamp must fit between the CL500's cables, hoses, and electrical blocks without interfering with the levers and controls, and because the bar length is calculated for that handlebar. A universal kit remains the right choice when the handlebar is no longer the original one.

Are assembly instructions available?

Yes. The official Barkbusters INS-BHG-110-NP instructions are attached to this listing in the Manufacturer documents section, with the installation sequence and warnings.
