Barkbusters BLG-013 handguard protection for Ducati Multistrada 1200, 2010-2014

The BLG-013 is the Barkbusters framework designed to reinforce the original handguard on the Ducati Multistrada 1200 from 2010 to 2014. It does not replace the stock handguard: it fits around it and adds what it lacks on its own, namely an aluminum bar that runs in front of the levers and withstands impacts.

Protection and use

The original Ducati handguard is aerodynamic plastic: it protects against the wind, not impacts. Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between the two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration - anchored both at the end and at the center of the handlebar - is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. It is the choice for riders who use the Multistrada 1200 on narrow roads, hard-packed dirt tracks, and long rides, where a branch or a low-speed fall can hit the brake or clutch lever directly.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum bars (manufacturer replacement part code BAR-LG13), one right and one left, with black powder coating. Two-piece clamps with dedicated connectors. Barkbusters does not state the kit's weight, so we do not report it.

Compatibility

Barkbusters states this compatibility for motorcycles in original factory configuration, with the stock handguard installed. Aftermarket handlebars have different diameters and wall thicknesses: the mounting must be verified before purchase. From 2015 onward, the Multistrada 1200 has a different setup and requires a different code.

Installation

Remove the original plugs from the handlebar ends, fit the clamp onto the tube without tightening it, attach the bar to both the end fitting and the clamp, then tighten in the order specified by the manufacturer. Specified torques: 10 Nm for the M6 bolts and 28 Nm for the M8 bolts, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking the tightness again after the first 50 km. Barkbusters recommends having the installation carried out by a workshop and reminds you to check, once the work is complete, that the throttle, brake, clutch, and engine kill switch operate freely and that the turn signals are not obstructed.
