When tightened, it holds the throttle at the selected opening; when loosened, the grip moves freely again and automatically returns to the closed position. It holds the throttle open; it is not a speed regulator: the motorcycle slows down uphill, accelerates downhill, and the device does not disengage automatically when you brake.
