When tightened, it holds the throttle at the chosen opening; when loosened, the grip is free to move again and returns to its closed position on its own. It locks the throttle opening; it is not a speed regulator: the motorcycle slows uphill, accelerates downhill, and the device does not disengage automatically when you brake.
