When tightened, it holds the throttle at the selected opening; when loosened, the grip moves freely again and returns to the closed position on its own. It locks the throttle opening, rather than regulating speed: the motorcycle slows uphill, accelerates downhill, and the device does not disengage automatically when you brake.
