When tightened, it holds the throttle at the selected opening; when loosened, the grip moves freely again and returns to the closed position by itself. It locks the throttle opening; it is not a speed regulator: the motorcycle slows down uphill, accelerates downhill, and does not disengage automatically when you brake.
